Size Guide: Finding the Right Size

Tops and Dresses

We sometimes measure the distance from Armpit to Armpit lying flat on a table.  The best way to find your desired Armpit to Armpit measurement is to measure an item in your closet that has the fit you are looking for.  For example, if you are buying a relaxed fit tee, measure a tee from your closet that fits just as you would like your new item to fit.  On the other hand, if you want an item to be more fitted, measure a fitted item from your closet. 

We may also measure length, usually from shoulder to hem lying flat.  Occasionally we will measure from armpit to hem if the item is strappy or off the shoulder.  We usually specify where we measure from.  If it in not specified, then it was measured shoulder to hem.  It’s always advisable to take an item from your closet, lay in flat and measure to determine if the new item you want to purchase is the length you desire.

Keep in mind that measurements vary based on embellishments, material, and the unique design of the garment.  You can usually tell the intended fit by the photos and description.  For example, if a dress has an oversized bohemian fit, the armpit to armpit measurement on the size small may be 22".  Whereas, if the dress is a bodycon stretchy fitted dress, it could be 15".  That is why it is advisable to measure an item in your closet that is similar to what you are purchasing.

 

Pants

When considering what size pants, it can be tricky on some items.  For example, palazzo pants generally have longer rise and shorter inseam.  The fit is drastically different than a pair of fitted jeans.  The overall length of the palazzo pants and the jeans may be the same, but the inseams are very different.  It is best to compare the measurements from a similar style in your closet when deciding the right fit.  Also, be open to having pants hemmed once you receive them.  Many of our brands tend to run long, rather then shorter.  If pants are too long, they can be hemmed.  However, if they are too short, there’s nothing you can do to get the right fit. 

Also, when measuring pants, we try to specify if the material is stretchy or not.  You may need a 28” waist measurement in jeans, but a 27” waist in stretchy relaxed fit pants.

Waist and Hip measurements are measured lying flat and then doubled.   Hip measurements are usually only taken on pants that don’t have a lot of stretch.
